UK Trip 2013: Manchester

Saturday 23 November 2013 – Wednesday 26 November 2013

The train ride was a bit of a journey for us. Supposed to be 4 hours direct from Cardiff to Manchester. Tapi the train got delayed so jadilah 6 jam non-direct train. Penat la haih dalam sejuk-sejuk dah gelap pukul 5pm tu turun lif naik lif tukar gerabak. Kesian kat my mom she was exhausted. Z was okay coz he slept the first half of the journey. IY on the other hand was sleeping when we arrived the destination (tukar train). Agak susah la sikit nak kejut dalam mamai dia tu. Terpaksa angkat dia angkat beg rush turun train segala. *lap peluh*.

But oh well, we survived. Luckily our apartment was very very near the train station. 2 minutes of walking and we checked in. We stayed at Max Piccadilly Serviced Apartments. This apartment ada washing machine so we pulun basuh baju when we were there. By the way, my apartment bookings and research are all from Agoda.

The apartment is a spacious 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms with modern interior. I love the big windows overlooking the city. Walaupun gloomy, tetap cantik!

The kids were getting better when we were here. No more recurring fevers just the cough and flu. I was still on standby mode though. Kasi ubat on time and making sure they had their rests.

We went to the Manchester United Stadium Tour (of course!). IY was in awe. Mulut tak habis-habis mumbling Wow! And on our way back I heard he said “this is the best day ever!” Haha!!

Compulsory shot!

Ni pun pose wajib!

Ni pun pose wajib! Z was cold. Nak senyum muka jadi camtu dah. Haha!

Okay another cerita – we took a cab from the stadium in Old Trafford to our favourite restaurant for lunch in Rusholme. Z was coughing and yeah go figure what happened next? He threw up in the cab! Luckily we were in the big black cab where we didn’t have to fold the stroller, just pushed the stroller inside the cab and lock the wheels. So Z was in sitting in his stroller, all covered with vomit. Tapi nasib baik takde setitis pun atas lantai cab tu. *phew!* I still apologized to the driver though. Driver tu relax je, siap kasi tissue rolls lagi.

The next day was spent at Trafford Centre. It’s a huuugeeeee mall in Manchester where Legoland and SeaLife are located. Legoland dia kecik je, bukan theme park like what we have in JB or what they have in Windsor. It’s a discovery centre macam ala-ala Petrosains gitu. SeaLife tu macam Aquaria. The kids had fun at both places. It was indoor so tak sejuk lah kan. Sebab tu la suka. Mommy pun suka sebab less exposure to the harsh weather. After that we masuk the mall for some shopping, lunch and solat. Ada prayer room inside complete with tempat wuduk. Very convenient.

IY had the chance to touch a crab apa ntah. A rare breed I supposed. And not the edible type. Mommy touch tak? Mestilah TAK!

Manchester has a special place in our hearts. We spent the early days of our married life here. We actually berangan nak pergi balik to our old neighbourhood where we used to live. But it didn’t happen. Tak sempat lah. Nak pergi shopping kat Arndale pun kena bergilir-gilir. Apatah lagi nak pegi Whalley Range. But we did lalu part of the hood masa on the way nak pegi airport time balik. We were in the taxi masa tu. We saw the Alexandra Park where we used to stroll and the football field where hubby used to play footie with his uni mates. Oh memories!

At MAnchester Airport - ready to go home. We were super early. Had 5 hours to kill the time. They were a handful.

Things got better after the security gate. Ada tempat main kat dalam tu.

Here’s one last story – during the checking in and security, Z was drinking his milk sitting on his stroller. They asked me to hand in the bottle while Z was STILL drinking. At first the lady security (Muslim in hijab) asked me to drink the milk in front of her. I said ok sure no problem. Then came her supervisor asking me how old Z is. When I said 2½, he said “Sorry Madam, we have to discard the liquid unless he’s 2 and below.” Maka terbazirlah sebotol susu itu. Oh well, as long as Z tak nangis I was ok. Dia terpinga-pinga je kenapa amik botol adik? Nasib baik dapat balik botol kosong.

At DUbai Airport for transit. Ada 3 hours gap.

During transit, our luggage tak ikut sekali including our stroller. So Emirates kasi pinjam their McLaren. Merasa adik naik Mclaren ye. He was in UK time. Lena dibuai mimpi.

So I guess that wraps up our UK travelogue. Hope you enjoyed reading them.

We will surely come back InsyaAllah. Maybe when the kiddos are older and the weather is warmer.

UK Trip 2013: Cardiff

Wednesday 20 November 2013 – Friday 22 November 2013

We took the morning train from Paddington to Cardiff. Checked out from our apartment and we bid farewell to London.

Nak dijadikan cerita – we were having breakfast while waiting for our train tiba-tiba si Z vomited! He was sitting on his stroller and muntahkan segala isi alam. I rushed him to the nearest babyroom and started cleaning up. Bila dah siap semua, my family was already waiting for me to board on the train. We were running frantically to the coach and barely made it. Gosh! I hate to even recall that experience.

Nevertheless, the ride was a smooth one. I loved train rides in the UK. The scenery is breathtaking-ly beautiful. IY and Z behaved well. Tak ramai sangat orang dalam tu so Z happily jumped from one seat to another. London to Cardiff is only 2½ hours. Sekejap je dah sampai.

In Cardiff we “checked-in” my brother’s home. Oh how it felt so good to be in a home. Real home. Boleh masak basuh baju and lepak seperti sediakala. Best!

The boys in front of Amrun's house

Z started to spike a temperature. IY was still so-so like a yo-yo. Sat demam sat kebah. Sat lompat sat baring. That night, Z went to 39.8C so we had to resort to the suppository. He was shivering and clinging to me all night long. Uwaaaa mommy felt so help-less.

The next day we decided to let go of our Cardiff city sightseeing and Cardiff castle tour. We figured the weather will be too cold for the kids to be outside. So the family went on the tour without us.

At Bridgend Factory Outlet. Lucky ada the rented car trolley for Z. Boleh la IY rest and use the stroller

It was not easy asking him to "park" his car there!

Masa ni nak balik dah. It was not easy asking him to “park” his car there!

I think we spent the least time outdoor in Cardiff. Banyak masa duduk rumah je. I really made sure the kids had enough food, enough sleep and rest at home. They stayed-in watching movies or playing with their toys or doing coloring activities. My brother has so many movie collections. Sampai nak muntah dah tengok cite minions. Even kalau keluar pun just for a few hours. By lunchtime, we are already home.

IMG_5035 IMG_5040I kinda wished we had more time in Cardiff to explore the city. Hope ada rezeki lagi to pegi sana before his graduation.

So where to next? Manchester baby!!

UK Trip 2013: London

Saturday 16 November 2013 – Tuesday  19 November 2013

The journey and the arrival

13 hours of direct MAS flight was a wee bit boring and tiring. For the kiddos at least. IY kept asking “bila nak sampai ni?”. He was feverish a few hours before we landed. I started to panic but trying to keep my cool. Z had his own seat this time so it was a bit spacious for him to sleep. But all in all it wasn’t that bad lah. Cuma maybe for future long haul journey, we will opt for transits. Breaking the journey into parts keep the kids on their toes and excited seeing new things around them.

From Heathrow we took the fast train to the city. Bro and wifey were already there waiting for us. They came from Cardiff to spend the weekend with us playing tourist in London.  We stayed at Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments in Bayswater. The 3-bedroom 2-bathroom duplex unit was comfortable for the 9 of us! What I loved about this place is that they have daily housekeeping service. Also it is located very near to everything. Taxi pun senang dapat. Or jalan kaki pun dekat je to tube or main road. What I don’t love is they don’t have washing machine inside the unit. Ada laundry service with a charge je.

The stairs are leading up to the 3 bedrooms

Open space living-dining concept. The stairs leading up to the 3 bedrooms. Ada dishwasher, fridge, stove and microwave. We didn’t do any cooking. We ate out on-the-go or just tapau to eat-in. Halal food berlambak. In our case, we were regular customers of TukDin!

The weather was about 8-10C which by orang Malaysia punya standard is freezing cold!

That night we just lepak indoor and settled in. Tucked the kids to bed and seperti biasa mak bapak pun lena sekali. My siblings however, went out for dinner and tapau food for us. Ahh the perks of being young. Energatic! We were like that once upon a time. Now dah masuk 3 series, tilam lagi sedap dari kebab. Hehe!

London sightseeing

We went to Madam Tussauds and took the open top hop-on hop-off bus for sightseeing around London. IY was cranky all morning coz he was not feeling well. Luckily ada uncle yang rajin mendukung. He didn’t want to walk at all! By noon he was already moody to max! We stopped at Trafalgar Square and took a cab back to the apartment. The rest of the family continued the journey on the bus to London Eye.

All of us on the double deck! Hubby's not looking. Pfft!

She's new. The last time I was here, she wasn't there yet.

My family went to the top. View from the London Eye. It was already dark at around 5-ish pm.

We were supposed to go on the River Thames cruise tapi due to the kids’ health condition, we scrapped that off! My mom was not feeling well too. She was coughing and just wanted to rest. We didn’t want to push everyone’s limit. Took it slow and follow the flow.

I was disappointed at first. Frust sebab already paid everything in advance. Beli online from Malaysia sebab cheaper and faster boleh cut Q nak masuk. In the end, we had to burn most of it. I thought I had it all planned perfectly. Tapi who am I to make the so-called perfect plan kan? Allah is the best planner of all. I learned my lesson. Astaghfirullahalazim.

IY’s fever come and go. He could be jumping up and down driving us crazy with his antiques one minute. Or will be sleeping all day long shivering the next minute. I was on nurse duty giving him PCM and Prospan every 6-8 hours round the clock. I just prayed and prayed for him to recover soon.

We also went to Bicester Village and Portobello Market in Notting Hill. Most of the days we started the day early and end early too. Before the kids buat perangai. Pagi-pagi biasanya semua masih fresh lagi. By 2-3pm kita dah balik apartment to rest. By 5pm biasanya the kids dah tidur. So lepas the kids tidur, we went out again for short shopping trips. We took turns to babysit.

Me and Z and my family at Bicester Village. Gee was staying with IY in the car at the car park. We took turns to shop. IY slept the whole time lepas makan ubat. Verdict of BV? Not my cup of tea.

We also went to the London Zoo. Just me, SIL and baby sis. Sepatutnya the zoo was for the kids to enjoy. But oh well, nevermind, banyak lagi zoo lain. I took tonnes of pictures and videos at the zoo for the boys to see.

If it wasn't for the cold weather, we would've enjoyed the zoo

If it wasn’t for the weather, we would’ve enjoyed the zoo. Oh don’t be deceived by the sunlight. Sunny but freezing cold!

As a result of sleeping too early, the kids usually woke up at 3-4am in the morning asking for food or milk or it’s ubat time. Memang jetlag sokmo. All the way for 10 days. Mommy terpaksa la bersengkang mata melayan kerenah anak-anak. If tak tahan, just pass baton to daddy pulak. During the wee hours I showed them the pictures and videos of things they have missed. Other activities to kill the time was also colouring, writing and little bit of Ipad. Not forgetting – instagramming or whatsapp-ing people in KL! Sampai ada yang tanya mommy “eh tak tidur ke?”. I wish I could say “tengah tidur la niii”. Haha!

Okayyy…Next stop – Cardiff City!

UK Trip 2013: The intro

We just got back from our UK trip. Will blog about it bit by bit. 10 days worth of stories mana muat dalam satu entry kan?

In the meantime, sneak peek dulu. Sabaq naaaa!

First stop was London

First stop was London

Then we headed to Cardiff

Then we headed to Cardiff

Last but not least -- Manchester

Last but not least — Manchester

This trip was a whole new challenge for us as parents. Bringing 2 kiddos on a long distance journey in the extreme weather was one heck of an experience. Demam, batuk, flu, jatuh tergolek, tersepit jari pintu, muntah di mana jua, tantrums dan macam-macam lagi.

Despite all that, it was a memorable trip. Fuhh tak akan ku lupa anakku muntah di Paddington train station minutes before the train had to leave. Gile lah running macam Amazing Race. My mom was this close to pitam with the rushing and all that chaos. I feel so guilty sebab lama sangat dalam toilet. Lama sebab I was cleaning up Z and the stroller and myself. Haihh! OCD sungguh aku ni! Sorry ma.

Alrighty, I’ll see you in my next entry — all about London!

Krik krik krik

Where have I been?

Rasa dah lama tak jot down stuff here. Like really really jotting down. Dunno if there’s still people reading. Ada la kot nampak je kat stats tu sekerat dua masuk jengok. Oh thank you, you. Masih sudi membaca.

I think soon I will write love letters to my sons in my blog. IY is almost reading now. Yang simple-simple dia dah boleh grasps the sound of the word. Cannot tipu him anymore (hehe!). He even peeks on my sms/whatsapp these days. “Mama tulis apa tu ada nama abang situ?” MasyaAllah, how much he has grown. I am at the stage where I need to explain everything in detail now. With facts and concrete evidence. Tak leh main hentam belasah je.

Thanks to Adni, things are much easier for me. He has the basics from school and we at home will just elaborate. Sometimes I just underestimate him. For example, he came back one day talking about the sun, the planets and the universe. Something we don’t really borak kosong at home, kan?

So maybe if I write something for him or something about him here, he will read it. And I hope later over the years I will have an easy teenage-years parenting stage (Wishful thinking! Since when parenting is EASY? At any stage!).

On a different update, I went for my HPV vaccination. Went to see Dr Seri after my miscarriage. Had my first jab then. Going for the second one tomorrow. Final dose will be in 6 months in April 2014. I have always wanted to do it knowing that it is important to be vaccinated. Walaupun sakit demam tu kalau Allah nak kasi, Dia kasi jugak, still kita usaha dan tawakal. Before this masa IY asyik tangguh je. Then I became pregnant of Z. Then I had to wait until I was done with breastfeeding baru boleh pulak. See how long that was? Sudah 5 tahun woi!

A little bit jealous dengan my sister who got it for free at school. How come my time dulu takde dapat free pun? Oh well, when was that? Entah-entah they haven’t even invented the vaccine masa tu. Tua dah kita. It’s been ages since I last left high school.

On another unrelated update, we are going on another trip. To UK! Weehoo! Will blog about that later lah when we are back. I’m more relaxed this time compared to the Istanbul trip. Dah pro dah travel dengan budak-budak ni. Cewah! Not! Or maybe because we are familiar with the places and the weather. Hope the weather will do kind to us. Autumn/winter-ish should be okay. But never underestimate the British weather. Soooo unpredictable. You can have 4 seasons in one day! No kidding!

I’m not really into the trip, yet. Belum full swing mode lagi. Mainly because my mind is on Gee’s surgery. Selagi tak settle ops dia, selagi tu hati tak keruan. Appointment lagi 3 hari. Dup dap dup dap jantung ni.

So okay that’s all for now. Until my next update (which I hope won’t be THAT long).

Toodles!
